Node and Storage Investments

Overview

Investors may purchase compute nodes on the cluster that will belong to their private condo. These nodes are exclusive to investors and the project(s) to which they belong. If you wish to purchase nodes for your use on the cluster, please submit a ticket to help@acf.utk.edu. A staff member will contact you to discuss details regarding the purchase, such as the MOU (memorandum of understanding) and SLA (service level agreement) that will apply to the node(s). At the time of this writing, the standard service contract period is five years. Other periods will be considered on a case-by-case basis. The minimum contract period is three years.

Standard Compute Node

With the standard node, investors receive a powerful compute node that can handle nearly any high-performance workload. The pertinent technical specifications are listed below.

At the time of this writing, the total cost for the standard compute node is approximately $10,000 and a quote will be generated for each compute node purchase request. Modifications can be made to this configuration on a case-by-case basis.

Standard GPU Node

With the GPU node, investors possess a compute node that not only handles standard HPC workloads with ease, but also powers through GPU-intensive applications. The pertinent technical specifications are listed below.

At the time of this writing, the total cost for the standard GPU node is approximately $23,000.00 and a quote will be generated for each GPU node purchase request. Modifications can be made to this configuration on a case-by-case basis.

Storage Investments

Investors can purchase dedicated high-performance Lustre storage for their projects. At the time of this writing, the cost per terabyte is $42 per year. Be aware that institutional projects receive 1TB of Lustre project space free of charge; however, any storage beyond that amount must be purchased.

Please note that backups and archives are unavailable for Lustre storage. The cost per terabyte only includes the storage space and administrative configuration and maintenance of the file system. For more information on the cluster's file systems, please refer to the File Systems document.
