Requesting an Account

Prerequisites

Accounts on the ACF are primarily available to UT staff, faculty, and students. Personnel from other institutions, such as ETSU and TDEC, may request an account if they are affiliated with UT. Personnel from institutions outside of UT and its affiliates may request access, but the approval of these requests is subject to the discretion of ACF staff.

Account Requests for UT Users

Navigate to the ACF’s website and hover over the “Getting started” menu item. Select the “Request an account” option from the dropdown, then select the “I need to request a new account” option. Figure 2.1 highlights the “Request an account” option on the ACF’s website. From there, follow these steps to complete your account request. Please note that you must have a valid NetID for this process.

  1. Select the NetID option that applies to your institution.
  2. Provide your NetID and NetID password. Select “Verify.”
  3. If your professor or supervisor has an existing project on the ACF and you know its identifier, specify it. Please allow up to 24 hours to give the principal investigator (PI) sufficient time to review and approve your request.
  4. Agree to the ACF’s Acceptable Use Policy.
  5. Submit the form.

Generally, your account should be created within an hour; however, please allow for up to 24 hours for your account to be created. Any issues with your account request will be communicated through email. If you suspect your account request was lost or invalidated, please submit a ticket to help@acf.utk.edu. Please do not submit another account request unless User Assistance explicitly asks you to do so.

Account Requests for Non-UT Users

If you are a non-UT user, access the account request form in the same manner as a UT user. After you select the “I need to request a new account” option, select the “I do not have a NetID” option. Follow these steps to complete your request.

  1. Provide all the necessary information in the form.
  2. Once you complete the form, select “Continue.”
  3. Specify an existing project to which you should be added or request a new project.
    1. If you specify an existing project, the principal investigator (PI) must approve the request. Please allow up to 24 hours to give the PI sufficient time to review and approve your request.
    2. If you request a new project, provide all the necessary information in the project request form, then select “Continue.”
  4. Accept the ACF’s Acceptable Use Policy.
  5. Submit the form.

Unlike UT users, it may take a longer period of time to process your account request. Please allow approximately three to five business days for ACF staff to review and approve your request. Any issues with your account request will be communicated through email. If you suspect there was a problem with your account request, please submit a ticket to help@acf.utk.edu. Please do not submit another account request unless User Assistance explicitly tells you to do so.

Accounts for Former UT Staff and Faculty

For former UT staff or faculty that have an ACF account, they can continue to use the system for UT-affiliated projects for up to one year after their departure from UT. After that one year period, a current UT staff or faculty member must sponsor a NetID for them. The sponsorship form may be found on OIT’s website. Depending on the circumstance, they may require new accounts on the ACF. If you have any questions about these situations, please submit a ticket to help@acf.utk.edu.
